Why I Draw
Architectural design is my profession, but drawing has always been a constant. I don’t see the two as separate disciplines; they’re simply different ways of exploring the same ideas. My background in architecture has shaped the way I think about form, composition, narrative, light, shadow, culture, context, and the people a piece is ultimately for. Those ideas continue to influence every drawing I make.
I work primarily in charcoal because I love the honesty of the medium. There’s very little standing between the idea and the surface, just the charcoal, the paper, and the process. Its simplicity allows me to focus entirely on the drawing itself, while its expressive nature gives me everything I need to build atmosphere, depth, and emotion from a single stick.
More than anything, I’m drawn to the challenge. Every piece is an opportunity to solve a new problem, push my understanding a little further, and create something better than the last. That pursuit is what keeps me coming back to the drawing board.
This website is a home for my work: charcoal, digital, and whatever comes next.
